12/21/2020 0 Comments non-duality || A COMPRIHANSIVE GUIDE Welcome to my attempt to guide you to the experience of non-duality. First of all, I want to encourage you to ask a question, "What does non-duality feel like?". The reason being, on your spiritual journey you'll come across a lot of paradoxes and things you can never fully understand; but you can get a feel for it. For anything that's beyond our understanding, we can get a feeling for that. 1. Everything is energy in motion (e-motion) If you’ve ever tried The Presence process you’ll know what I am talking about. Perceiving life through felt perception as energy in motion. Let me elaborate. The person who is in the state of non-duality sees everything from the place of emotional energies; as one with themselves, rather than from the place of mind. If someone gets angry at them, they don’t go into the mind, judging that person; but rather feel the person’s anger, - feel their own anger arising within; and hence sees that person, as one with themselves. Read the above lines. Let it sink in. Rather, suppressing, controlling, or sedating emotions, when we perceive life as emotions, which is to say, when we feel the presence of everything around (felt perception), we naturally move towards oneness with all life. Non-duality is the state of the unified field. It perceives the emotional energy of all life, without labeling or judging anything, and hence the gap between the inside world and outside world collapses. 2. A Paradigm Shift Once it so happened that I was so happy I was laughing out of joy and crying at the same time. What would you call that state I was in? I realized it was something beyond the physical realm of words and labels. At that moment my mind tried hard to figure out whether I was laughing or crying. It couldn’t. Non-duality is where we transcend the paradigm of crying or laughing, being right or wrong, happy or sad, what is good or bad. In non-duality, we let go of both the polarities. We tend to just join the dance with our beloved life. In the first few pages of Eckhart Tolle’s book “a new earth,” he writes that millions of years ago there were some reptiles, big lizard-like, the most earth-bound of all. Yet out of forces of evolution, they developed wings, the capacity to fly and hence breaking free from the gravitation pull that had held them for so long. They didn’t get better at crawling or walking, but transcended crawling and walking entirely; And hence shift to a whole new way of being. 3. Emptiness Nothingness or emptiness was realized by the Buddha. The core principle is “when you let go of all doingness, all beliefs about yourself and the world around you enter emptiness” You become nothing. No-thing. I cannot explain what it is; I can only explain what it’s not. It’s not a thing, it's what is left when things are gone. Who observes the mind during meditation? You; the awareness. Who points the finger at all the beliefs the mind is holding on to? You; the awareness. Pure and empty awareness. The mind cannot point a finger at itself. Some thoughts may still come and go, we observe them, and hence subject-object distance is created. The more we practice this, the more we distance ourselves from the mind, the still and empty we become. 4. Koan A koan is the best way that I can provide you to experience non-duality. Take a look bellow
5. One is connected with the unchanged You are connected to the experiencer rather than the experience. The experience is in a constant state of change, but not you the experiencer. You were neither born nor will ever die. The body can die but the consciousness (you) cannot. You are neither the body nor mind; but the awareness behind them. Body ages, mind changes but not you. The unchanged awareness; young as morning, old as the sea. We observe various emotional and mental states, like clouds floating in the sky, and with time we realize we are more of an observer and experiencer than the thoughts and opinions which come and go. 6. Entering Timelessness We are run by time, everyone you see around is infected with this global pandemic called time. Everyone is getting late, people are limited when to sleep or get up. Not to mention the pain of the past and fears of the future, it creates suffering like no other thing. Just remove time for a sec and you’ll see for yourself. Why don’t animals suffer like us? I bet you know the answer by now. They have no sense of time. Why am I calling it a pandemic? Because like any other disease it creates suffering, and sometimes even more than actual diseases. How? Because time and mind are inseparable. And the mind is the cause of all human suffering. Mind drags us into the past and future; away from the now. And all suffering is either pain from the past or fears of the future. Suffering and the mind cannot exist in the now. When we enter non-duality we simultaneously enter timelessness, absence of time, and become present to the moment. We free ourselves from the illusions of time and mind and enter into reality. This could be the first time experience for most of us. Seeing the world as it truly is. Peace was present long before the arrival of humans and will be present long after we are gone. The whole universe is covered in the blanket of peace, you just didn’t realize it before. Time is sexy. It will call you again and again like a seductress so that you once again buy into its ideals and start giving it energy, you have to catch yourself at that moment. 7. Not doing but undoing From the place of heightened presence, we naturally begin to undo and remove the beliefs, patterns, and programmings deployed by the mind which did not serve us and created suffering. When we totally surrender to it; the presence and chose it regardless of what the mind has to say about it can seem almost as a supernatural power or a spirit guide is guiding us, burning away every lie, every illusion, every belief that binds our spirit All the filters that the mind has placed between us and reality. But for us to remove them, we first have to let our presence discover it. To enter the unified experience of non-dualism we don’t have to go out there and do something, but rather undo everything from within. How? We have a natural capacity to let go of pretty much everything that mind sells. Beliefs, ideas, stories, narratives, assumptions, underlying communications, people, and the list goes on. All that is required is a leap of courage and faith. The important thing to note here is that we must discern cause from effects. We must not fiddle around with effects but rather get to and resolve the cause. “Liberation cannot be achieved by plucking the individual leaves, as the tree continues to produce new ones. For one to achieve liberation, the entire tree must be uprooted" So using the trail of effects (thoughts, behavior, beliefs) to get to the cause (a core belief, a traumatic event, an emotion) is the heart of this whole process. Don’t go out doing but let the presence guide you. 8. Non-Doing It is the end of getting somewhere, do, or accomplish something. It is the freedom from life’s constant hustle and bustle, it is the end of running and hence it is the end of frustration, desperation, escaping the present moment, and hence casting guilt to the present moment. Stepping into being marks the end of doing. What is being? I can't tell you. Once you stop doing you'll find yourself. It is what's left A high degree of freedom, peace, and lightness arises when you let go all everything you need to do, accomplish, or get to. It is the purest form of presence. To experience non-duality your ego has to die first and not to mention the ego resists its own death. “What will I do when doingness is gone”, “What am I without my stories and Identities”. It will throw all kinds of resistances at you, in the form of thoughts, stories, explanations, rationalizations, and emotions, when you attune to enter non-duality to avoid its own death. You stay unhindered. Non-doing shouldn’t be confused with total inactivity. What I am asking you is to take a leap from being destination-oriented to becoming journey oriented. I am asking you to pay attention to and enjoy the journey. Ever saw a hiker saying “I just want to get to the top”, like screw the journey and get to the top. What would be the point of getting to the top, when you didn’t enjoy the climb? You could’ve just asked a helicopter to pick you up from the bottom and drop you on to the top. 9. End Of Seeking Lastly, it is the end of seeking. It is the total freedom from the mind and hence freedom from running that follows it. It is the home where each of us must come to whenever they are ready. The pathway of awareness travels from the physical, then mental, and then to the emotional. Disidentifying from the mind and giving emotions our unconditional focused presence, our final destination. And the moment we accept this fact, seeking is over. The ocean of being is on the other side, our sweet home. And nowhere else to go. Signs one is living in non-duality Now let us explore some of the signs of the person living in a state of non-duality. You can look at, Eckart Tolle and Mooji on Youtube to learn more.
They live in a state of non-attachment; they don’t resist emotions or anything, to be honest with you. And since they don’t resist, they don’t run towards something as a reaction from what they are resisting. Away and towards. Hence, their presence is grounded. Nothing caught them off guard, because they don’t have any guard In most of us, we live in a state of running away from what we don’t like and towards what we like. But in enlightenment, we simply stop and accept what we are running away from. End of running
The world of illusions is the world of mind, the world of past, future, and thoughts. Nothing is real there. Neither the past and future nor the thoughts. How? Because past and future do not exist. When it was the past it was this moment right now. When the future will come it will be this moment right now. All three past, future, and thoughts aren’t real. They are the product of our imagination and hence an illusion.
When Illusions are gone now is all there is. People who live in non-duality are deeply into the now. They do not fault their perception and hence sees past and future as it is; illusions. Being present in the moment is the natural byproduct of this correct perception. But how can I let go of time, what about the practical aspects? Yes, you will get back to the time when necessary, for practical aspects, but you’ll not get run by the time. We use the time when required and let it go. This way we avoid wandering into the dream of the past and future.
Masters of non-duality feel everything, rather than worship, feeling good and resisting feeling bad. What I would ask you now is to trade “feeling good”, “feeling happy” with authentic joy
Not dual meaning, not two, i.e. one. And guess who is the one who is making the “two”? Mind; with the virtue of its mental structures (labels, definitions, identities, past experience, you name it). But in non-duality, the sole principle is “not separate”. All the mental structures, giving name and purpose, points towards separation; away from non-duality and away from peace and oneness.
“Everything exposed light itself becomes light” Masters of non-duality are light-workers. They live for a higher purpose. They take the task of ascending others' state of consciousness, thus catalyzing the next step of human evolution, enlightenment. This is why you’ll see the people who live from non-duality are mostly spiritual teachers.
Why is oneness a correct perception? Duh! I am separate. Why is that incorrect. Imagine an ocean. It has waves of course. I want to ask you “are waves separate from the ocean?” Yes, you might answer. But look closely. There are no separate waves apart from the ocean. It is just a separate label that your mind has created. There are only the ocean and no independent waves apart from the ocean. Look! The ocean is everywhere. Similarly, you aren’t separate either, you are part of one ocean. Life Separation is an incorrect perception. Conclusion -- Living in Gratitude
When you apply the above-given correction in perception simultaneously, living in gratitude is the natural by-product. There is no how or why it happens, it just does. We drown in the ocean's effortless presence and peace. The good news is everything in spirituality happens spontaneously and is the case of a win-win. For example, if you correct perception, you become more present; you become more present and it will open a doorway for the correction of perception, and connect you with the unchanged. All points above are spontaneous.
